Income tax relief for local and national events
Oregon personal income taxpayers, corporate income taxpayers, payroll taxpayers, and those who must pay transit self-employment tax may qualify for an extension. Affected taxpayers include residents of and businesses in the affected areas, and taxpayers whose tax records are located in those areas.
 
If you missed filing the Oregon taxes listed above because of recent events, you won't be penalized if you file or make payments within the extension periods granted by the IRS.

If you were affected by Hurricane Gustav, write "Hurricane Gustav" across the top of your Oregon return, payment vouchers, and other correspondence.
 
If you were affected by Hurricane Ike, write "Hurricane Ike" across the top of your Oregon return, payment vouchers, and other correspondence.
 
If you were affected by the December storms in Clatsop, Columbia, Polk, Tillamook, Washington, and Yamhill counties in Oregon, and Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, and Thurston counties in Washington, write "December 2007 storm" across the top of your Oregon return, payment vouchers and other correspondence.
 
If you were affected by the California wildfires, write "California wildfire" across the top of your Oregon return.
 
If you were affected by the Virginia Tech shootings, write "Virginia Tech" across the top of your Oregon return.
 
If you were affected by the storms in the Northeast, write "April 16 Storm" across the top of your Oregon return.
 
Penalty and interest
  • We will waive any late-filing or late-payment penalties that would have applied to returns or payments that may now be filed under these extensions.
  • We won't waive the late-payment penalty on taxes that were due before the extension period.
  • We will waive interest on a case-by-case basis.
  • If you are an affected taxpayer and you get a penalty from us for late returns or payments, contact us immediately.
